Turbine OEM uses digitalisation to enhance offering
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is using digitalisation to enhance turbine operation

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has launched a suite of ‘smart’ turbine tools to enhance monitoring and real-time decision making on offshore windfarms.

MHI Vestas head of product management, Henrik Baek Jorgensen, said “We are not content to just manufacture the world’s most powerful turbine.

“We know that our customers require world-class production and operation of the turbine in every area. This product portfolio addresses their most critical business needs and gives them an unprecedented level of visibility and control.”

The portfolio of four products aims to improve MHI Vestas customers’ business case not only in the design phase but also operations and maintenance.

The portfolio consists of SMART Foundation Loads, to help optimise foundation design; SMART Dampers, to actively reduce fatigue loads; SMART Fast Data, to enhance the data flow from a turbine; and SMART Performance Monitor, which brings wind power plant monitoring to a hand-held device.

Mr Jorgensen said “Our ambition is to not only have the most powerful products, but also the smartest products in offshore wind. This portfolio is the latest example of how we’re taking digitalisation to the next level.”
