Speedcast International has secured orders for remote communication and IT solutions on oil and gas production facilities in the North Sea and Malaysia. One contract is for a suite of communications systems on a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel currently being outfitted.
On the FPSO project, Speedcast will provide engineering and systems integration support through the testing and commissioning of various equipment in the shipyard.
This includes public address and general alarm networks, closed-circuit television, ultra-high frequency (UHF) and very high frequency (VHF) radios, equipment for the global maritime distress and safety system, and radar and aeronautical navigation beacons.
This is being conducted during the final part of a shipyard fit-out phase on the vessel. Speedcast will provide ongoing support during the sail-away from the shipyard and transit to the offshore oil field.
It will also support on-field commissioning until the first oil package is produced, when the team will execute a full handover to the operator to complete the contract.
In addition, Speedcast has expanded its professional services role with two major offshore oilfield operators in the North Sea. It will provide network support to specialist teams of radio operators, telecommunications technicians and project service providers.
In another deal, Speedcast will provide engineering resources to another large oil and gas operator to help commission the telecommunication services on a new offshore production platform being built in Malaysia.
